Christian Ed textbook

This book is a good resource for a foundational study of Christian Education. It is written primarily for an overview of adult Christian education. It is helpful to someone taking a beginning course in Christian Ed. or someone who finds themselves newly appointed to overseeing a church Christian Education program.

The book is very informative and through. It is easy reading and easy to comprehend. After reading the book, I was able to do an evaluation of our Christian Education program at my church. The evaluation will help improve our program.

A good book, but not what I was looking for.

If you're looking for a text that will give you a rundown of the history of Christian education, the major theories and the theorists behind them, etc. then this would be a great text. What I was looking for was a text that will give me some takeaway action points to help me out with my first job teaching a youth class on basic Christian doctrine. The description on the product page king of lead me to think this book would accomplish that goal, and I was left disappointed in that regard. It did well what it does, but it just wasn't what I was expecting.

About the Author

Biography of Martin Aigner

Martin Aigner received his Ph.D. in Mathematics in 1965 from the University of Vienna. He then spent five years in the United States, the last two at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill where he was introduced to the combinatorial world (which he has never left since) by G. C. Rota and the late R. C. Bose. After extensive travels he returned to Europe and spent three years at the University of Tübingen with a senior fellowship of the German Science Foundation. Since 1974 he has been a Professor of Mathematics at the Free University of Berlin.
Martin Aigner has published in various fields of combinatorics and graph theory and is the author of several monographs on discrete mathematics, graph theory and the theory of search.

Bringing dignity to enumerative combinatorics

Along with statistics, combinatorics is one of the most maligned fields of mathematics. Often it is not even considered a field in its own right but merely a grab-bag of disparate tricks to be exploited by other, nobler endeavours. Where is the glory in simply counting things? This book goes a long way towards shattering these old stereotypes. By unifying enumerative combinatorics under a strong algebraic framework, Aigner finally bestows upon the humble act of counting the respect it so surely deserves.
At first, it may be somewhat trying to make sense of his presentation as he reworks familiar results in this algebraic view. Often, I was left wondering why it is necessary to go through the trouble of all these high-powered techniques just to obtain results we've already obtained through much simpler means. However, as I progressed through the chapters, it became clear that the only consistent way to tackle the truly difficult problems in enumeration was with these algebraic tools.
If you are serious about combinatorics or merely interested in what combinatorics has to offer, this volume is certainly a valuable addition to your library.
